Named for the Italian word for “touch” after its intricate embroideries and luxurious fabrics, TOCCA combines the best of the romantic and exotic. Beginning as an apparel collection inspired by the European traveler on holiday, the popularity of it’s sophisticated feminine style logically led to the launch of TOCCA Beauty in 1997. As one of our best sellers in home decor and fragrance, the TOCCA candela and Eau de Parfum have become one of my personal favorites overnight.
The Cleopatra Candela and Eau de Parfum have easily been the most interesting products that I have reviewed on the Beauty Collection blog. 99% of the time, I fall in love with a scent and end up grabbing it in every form possible. With Leila Lou, it was the Body Lotion that drew me in, resulting in me purchasing the whole set.
TOCCA opened my eyes to a world of new possibilities.
Instead of matching scents, TOCCA explores the avenue of recreating a fragrance across the line; keeping the integrity of the original scent while formulating a complimentary aroma, dependent on the product. Such is the case with the Cleopatra Candela and Eau de Parfum.
Before we get into the complex fragrance that is Cleopatra, I want to touch on the amazingly beautiful TOCCA packaging. Each Tocca Candela and Candelina sits inside of TOCCA’s signature blue box, which opens to reveal a beautiful lavender interior. On the inside lid of the box are the words ‘Love Yourself,’ an affirmation that resonates deep in most women. In fact, I keep my Cleopatra Candela in the original packaging when not in use, just to be reminded every time I pop open the box.
The packaging for the Eau de Parfum is equally as beautiful – a textured box with foiled gold embellishments covering the entire case. The bottle is absolutely beautiful, inspired by dreamy fairy tales and historic glass blown bottling. Combining the history of old world cognac bottles with the whimsicality & femininity of Cinderella’s pumpkin, the Eau de Parfum bottle is truly a work of art.
Experience Time Travel With the Cleopatra Candela
Long before the Cleopatra Eau de Parfum existed, TOCCA created the Cleopatra Candela and Bath & Body line. As one of TOCCA’s top selling fragrances, the Cleopatra Candela is inspired by the iconic Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh who was known for her indulgent and timeless beauty rituals. The scent is refreshing and perfect for the summer, comprised of grapefruit and the gentle aroma of fresh cucumber. The balance of clean and citrus notes is near perfection; filling the room with an intoxicating fragrance without being too overpowering. I have avoided burning candles regularly in my home, since the smells are generally so intense that they make my eyes water. TOCCA has instantaneously changed all of that.
Not only does the Cleopatra Candela smell exhilarating, but the quality is unparalleled. Each one of TOCCA’s Candelas are filled with a hand poured paraffin wax blend that is non-greasy to the touch. The cotton wick is free of zinc and lead, keeping you safe from toxins and environmentally friendly. The burn time is incomparable, giving you 60 solid hours of fragrance. No need to save these for a special occasion, instead, use them daily to create your own personal sanctuary.
The Cleopatra Eau de Parfum – A Touch of Sophistication
With the popularity of the Cleopatra Candela, it was only logical for TOCCA to turn the beautiful Candela into a perfume. While the original fragrance is impeccable, transforming it into a Eau de Parfum would take some work. The Cleopatra Candela is a light mix of alluring aromas, while the Eau de Parfum would need to be far more complex. TOCCA wanted to create a more sophisticated version of the Candela, complimentary to the Candela while keeping in line with the original mission. A fragrance that would be a must-have for an European traveler on holiday.
The Cleopatra Eau de Parfum keeps the grapefruit top note, adding cassis bud and lush greens to the formula. While the cucumber is omitted, TOCCA concocts an interesting mix of tuberose, peach nectar and white jasmine, finishing with a dry down of warm patchouli, rich vanilla musk and golden amber. The result is a delicate yet multifaceted Eau de Parfum, packaged in a beautiful Italian-made glass bottle with a heavy, ornate gold-colored cap. I have received numerous compliments on the fragrance in the last few weeks that I have been wearing it. People have often compare it to Sarah Jessica Parker’s signature scent, but far more modern and refined. I’ve recently purchased my mom her very own Cleopatra Eau de Parfum, after the bottle going missing several times during my last vacation with her LOL.
Just like the Candela, the Cleopatra Eau de Parfum lasts forever. As a test, I sprayed my wrists and decolletage and began my timing experiment. I applied the fragrance at 1:00pm, and it was still alive at 8:00am the next morning, even after my evening bath and morning shower. The Eau de Parfum was only slightly lighter than when I originally applied, which was fine by me since the aroma had lasted over 12 hours. With summertime quickly approaching, it will be nice to see how it holds up after a day at the beach.
Both the Cleopatra Eau de Parfum and Candela are available at all Beauty Collection locations as well as BeautyCollection.com
