Beauty Fall 2011 RTW Chanel Collections Vogue HOW TO: 2 Min Chanel Runway Fall Smoky Eye

One of the hottest trends this fall is the soft, metallic smoky eye.  While I have seen this trend  between the pages of Allure and InStyle, none have inspired me as much as the models on the Chanel runway.  Peter Philips, the legendary Chanel Global Creative Director of makeup, brought an extra dose of edgy to the show with shimmery smokey eyes and strikingly pointed black liner. With Summer fading and Fall vastly approaching, we have you all set up to try this look our for yourself!

Check out this amazing Chanel inspired smoky eye, which will have you looking runway fresh in just 2 minutes!

Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer HOW TO: 2 Min Chanel Runway Fall Smoky Eye

Prime for perfection.

Prime your lids using the Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer.  If you aren’t familiar with primer, it is essential for any bold look – just like this one.  Primer gives the product a little extra hold, creating a long-lasting, intense color without creases.  I chose the Photo Finish Primer for a couple of reasons – the soft focus pearls help diminish the appearance of fine lines and discoloration on the lids, while the patented delivery system ensures effective results.

A Little Volume Never Hurt Anyone.

To make your smoky eye pop, make sure you use a drama filled mascara, like the  LORAC Special Effects Mascara. This double ended beauty comes with a mascara primer, which is so essential for a long-lasting look. First apply one coat of the primer (white tip/step 1) to your top and bottom lashes.  Give the primer a few seconds to dry, then apply the mascara (red tip/step 2) to your top and bottom lashes.

TIP: To increase the drama, increase the number of layers!  Just make sure to give your lashes a few seconds to dry before each application, this will help to build up more volume and thickness without you eyelashes clumping.

Smokey eyes are so much fun because you can personalize your look.  I suggest starting off light-handed with the shadow. Remember ladies, in the world of cosmetics, it is always easier to add more on than it is to take some off!

[DIY] Summer Sun-Kissed Eyes

Summer is here and the sun is blazing, leaving us with beautiful, sun-kissed skin. What better way to compliment your glow with a brand new look for Summer – fresh, colorful, popping, eyes!  Perfect for going to a poolside BBQ or a relaxing picnic at the beach, this look is easily transitioned from day to evening with a flick of an eyeliner pencil.  Lorac has some beautiful eye shadow pigments that work great for this look, so grab your train case and let’s get to work!

Step One:

Prime your eye lid with the Too Faced Shadow Insurance. Pat on your starter color, working from the inner corner of your eye to about 1/4 of the way out.  I used Lorac Eye Shadow in  Moonstone [a pretty shimmery beige]. Next fill in the rest of your eye lid with a Coral; like the Lorac Eye Shadow in Glamorous. I love this color, it’s a beautiful Coral with shimmery gold specks. I think we all know what to do next, blend!

Step Two:

Take your contour color and make a sideways “V” on the outer edge of your eye lid; I used Lorac Eye Shadow in Spice [a fabulous shimmery Brown color]. Then blend, blend, blend. Once you are done blending, add your highlight color; I used Lorac Eye Shadow in Star Quality [a very pretty shimmery champagne color].

Step 3:

You’re almost done, I swear. Now add an eye liner, like the  smooth Jane Iredale’s Mystikol in Citrine. It’s a creamy powder formula that won’t fade, smudge or crease – which is perfect for this look!  Finally, take your angled brush and line under your lower water line with Glamorous, starting from the inner corner of your eye and go about 1/4 of the way. Fill in the rest of the line with Spice working from the outside in, remember to blend a bit as you go. Finish with the Lorac Special Effects Mascara that gives your eyes the ‘Ooh La La’ effect.

For the Evening….

One last thing… If you want a little more pizazz, add a little bit of  blue on top of your eye liner; I used Lorac Eye Shadow in Celebutant [a beautiful aquamarine with shimmer]. Take your angled brush, dip it into some water, then into Celebutant and very thinly line right on top of your existing eye liner. Then add the same blue under  your lower water line working from the outside in. Adding the blue will give your eyes a nice pop, especially when nightfall comes.

[DIY] A Sizzling Hot Smoky Eye

4860308 lg [DIY] A Sizzling Hot Smoky EyeWhile eye trends are constantly changing, my all-time favorite look will always be a classic Smoky Eye.  With so many ways to customize it to your own preference, the Smoky Eye is perfect for a beach side luncheon or a hot night on the town.  One of my favorite palettes to create the look is the Smoky Eye Palette by Too Faced, coming with everything you need to create sexy, sizzling lids appropriate for any occasion.

If you’ve never created a Smoky Eye, the thought of it could be quite overwhelming.  Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered!  I’ve put together this easy, step-by-step tutorial to help you create the perfect sultry Smoky Eye.  If you’re brave enough, you can even start mixing and matching your own favorite colors to create a flirty fun look for the Summer!

Step One:

Prime your eye lid with the Too Faced Shadow Insurance. Then add your base color to the entire lid; here I used the Dark Gray. I love absolutely love this color;  it’s super pretty and allows for buildable color.   A favorite trick of mine  is to make sure you dampen your brush with water before dipping it into the eye shadow.  After the initial application, make sure to blend, blend, blend.

Step Two:

Pick up a little bit of the Black on your brush and form a sideways “V” on the outer corner of your eyelid.  Use a fluffy brush and blend the Black halfway to about 3/4 of the way into your crease. Once you are done blending, add your highlight color.  I used the Pale Silver to soften the look, dabbing gently to avoid too much pigmentation.

Step Three:

You’re almost done! Now add a liquid eyeliner, like the awesome Front of The Line PRO Liquid Eyeliner by Lorac.  It’s ‘no-budge, no-smudge’ formula will have your smoky eyes going all night long.  Then, take an angled brush, dip it into water before picking up more of the Black eye shadow and dab it onto your lower and upper water line.   I know it may seem weird to be putting powder on your water lines, but trust me, its probably one of the best tricks I’ve learned to keep my water lines from running.

Finally, use an angled brush to line your lower water line with Gray, starting from the inner corner of your eye out.  Stop the line about  3/4 of the way towards the outer corner.   Fill the rest of the line in with Black, working from the outside in.  After blending [ALWAYS REMEMBER TO BLEND!], finish with the Too Faced Lash Injection to make your eyes really pop.

[Get the Look] Gwen Stefani’s Vintage Inspired Ringlets

gwen [Get the Look] Gwen Stefanis Vintage Inspired Ringlets

From punk-rock chick to glam goddess, Gwen Stefani has been a shining star on the red carpet for years.  While she has traded in her suspenders for a more sheik, contemporary look – she continues to rock her signature rockabilly look; working her platinum blond locks and bold lip colors that would make any man melt.

I sat down with Ron Fretz, stylist and master colorist at Beauty Collection West Hollywood, to find out how an everyday girl like me could create Gwen Stefani’s elegant, voluminous ringlets at home.

1. Prime Time.

Start with a clean slate by cleansing and conditioning your hair before blow drying it straight.  Try the Hair Rules Blow Out Collection, choosing one appropriate for your hair type [Blow Out Your Waves, Blow Out Your Curls or Blow Out Your Kinks].  The mix of coconut oil, abyssinia oil, jojoba oil, and soothing shea butter are combined with a unique co-polymer of glycerin to seal the cuticle’s surface, increasing gloss, body, and manageability.

2. You’ve Really Got a Hold On Me

Apply a light spray gel, such as the Frederic Fekkai Coiff Bouffant – Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel from roots to ends.  To keep the top flat and smooth, use a stronger non-flaking gel from the root to mid-length.

3. Be a Pin Up Girl

Use the Mason Pearson Tail Comb to part your hair on one side, right at the highest point of your brow.  Slick down the hair with a comb before rolling both sides to right above your ear.  Set the roll at your desired height and then pin down using 2 or 3 bobby pins each.

4. Create the Curl

Use the BaByliss Pro – Nano Titanium to curl your whole head [with the exception of the pieces pinned down].  The more curls, the better!  Wait for the curls to cool before finger combing and back-combing to create a massive amount of volume.  Try to keep most of the curls in bunches to create a well defined, even look.
