A Working Mom’s Beauty Regimen

Gloria Araniva has worked for Beauty Collection for almost ten years.  She is a single mom with two beautiful daughters:  Savannah, age seven; and Julianna, age two . When I first started working at Beauty Collection a few years ago, Gloria was pregnant with Julianna. I’ll never forget how often clients commented on how beautiful she looked.

Although she has help from her family to care for her children, almost all of Gloria’s non-working waking hours are spent with them. How can a working mom take care of herself when her primary focus is always on her children?

As a skincare and Jane Iredale specialist, Gloria has learned beauty secrets that keep her always looking great. I sat down with her in April and asked her how she does it.

Q: Working moms have a tough time carving out time to take care of their skin. How do you do it?
A: Right before I go to bed, I make sure I go through my cleansing ritual.  That way, my skin always looks radiant in the morning. I always shower at night when the girls are in bed so that I have that time to myself. Even if I fall asleep on the couch, I get up and shower. After my shower, I use my serum and moisturizer depending on what my skin needs at that time.

Q: What is your skin type and did it change after your first or second pregnancy?
A: I have dry/dehydrated skin and am prone to freckles caused by the sun. My skin looked very radiant while I was pregnant but my freckles were a lot more noticeable probably from all the hormonal changes. The vinoperfect serum by Caudalie was great during and after my pregnancy because it helped minimize the dark spots. Otherwise my skin did not really change.

Q: How much time do you devote to your morning regimen? What steps do you do?
A: I only spend about 10 minutes total. In the morning, I cleanse again, I like to use a toner and then I always use my serum and moisturizer. I get dressed while the moisturizer soaks in and then I put on my makeup.

Q: How important is makeup to looking your best?
A: It’s very important. Makeup can help even out your skin and believe or not it helps protect your skin from the sun. It also seems to wake me up, I feel like I am ready to go!

Q:  You are the Jane Iredale specialist.  Why do you like that particular makeup so much?
A: I like it because it is a mineral makeup. It is not toxic to my skin and it always looks so natural.

Q: What products do you use?
A: If I want a flawless look, I use the liquid foundation with the pressed powder over it. I don’t always have time for that, so I use the tinted moisturizer or just the pressed powder. Then I add a little blush to my cheeks and eyelids. I finish it off with some mascara and I am done. All in all, it takes less than five minutes.

Q: What other Beauty Collection products do you use that you can’t live without?
A: I always carry the Natura Bisse Diamond Mist with me to use throughout the day when my skin feels dull. It gives me an instant pick up. I love the Borba drink because it hydrates and I get the vitamins at the same time. I noticed that when I don’t drink it, I don’t have the same energy. I also take the Murad Firm and Tone supplements because it has all the vitamins I need to keep me going. I love to spray on my favorite perfume, Juliette Has a Gun. It truly makes me feel sexy! Last but not least, I can’t live without my Moroccan Oil. Even when I don’t have time to style my hair, looks healthy and shiny. it always

Q: What advice do you have for working women?
A: Figure out a way to devote at least ten minutes a day to take care of your skin. It will definitely make a difference in the way you look which will help boost your confidence all day! If you can’t find ten minutes in the day, at least use a tinted moisturizer. It will keep you hydrated, even out your skin and give you some sun protection which will prevent premature aging.
