The hottest looks this spring could be labeled as The Assertive Feminine. Rather than the decidedly natural looks from previous seasons that call for a touch of mascara and some lip gloss, these looks mean business. Girl business. Harsh and defined has also gone by the wayside. Instead, the “in” lips are flirting with the understated and feminine. The “must-have” look for eyes is decidedly strong. And cheeks are playing nice and not choosing sides.
Smoky Eyes Get Colorful
The smoky eye gets an update this season with bold color and metallics. The boldest look borrows the heavy liner and replaces smoke with fire (crackers). Stila and Senna Cosmetics have revealed amazing color palettes in vibrant pastels. Blend these colors around your eyes instead of winter’s dark hues. Two coats of mascara are standard. And if you really want to show off your eyes- it’s time for Xtended Beauty or Ardell lashes. You don’t have to go crazy to create the effect you want. Try applying a few to the outside corners of your eyes – you may be surprised at the effect you can create without much effort.
Lips Go Coral and Light
The Assertive Feminine doesn’t just wear lip gloss. She uses nude and pale colors to enhance her natural colors. Which looks amazing when done in conjunction with our “firecracker” suggestion above. There are some gorgeous coral shades emerging from under the sea for spring. The only rule you need to remember for this season: no reds!
Hair Just Gets Creative
The Assertive Feminine is showing up in this spring’s hair trends as well. The “bob” is with us through the spring. Baby braids are also in. They can be ultra-romantic and feminine and are snaking their way into messy pulled-back looks. The messy chignon- off-center is freshest – is very in. You can also choose to play nice and neutral with the middle “part” and long hair option.
This look works curly or straight and is always in style.
The Nail Showcase
Nails are another fun canvas to showcase your spring in-the-know-ness. OPI and Essie’s new Spring colors are available in all of our locations. You’ll find coral surfacing in these selections as well. Lips and nails are a totally acceptable place to play matchy-match. Spring is a time to play!
