cody 150x150 Santa Paws

Ah, man’s best friend – the one who never talks back, would never tell your deepest
secrets and doesn’t even notice those extra fifteen pounds you put on this year. Before
you step on that flight from LA to Boston this year, read over our quick and simple guide
to caring for Cody (pictured at left) during the holiday travel season.

Make a Contact Sheet
Most parents make a contact sheet when they’re going to be away from home just in
case they have an emergency situation with one of their children. It’s a good idea to do
the same for your pet! If you are going to be carrying your pup along, do a quick internet
search of the local vet’s office and write the number down for safekeeping.

Keep them Toasty
If you must leave your pet behind, never leave them outdoors. While the forecast may call for mild weather, winter forecasts can change at the drop of a hat. Instead, arrange for your pet to stay at a kennel or with a trusted friend.

Keep Vaccinations Up to Date
Remember to keep your pet’s vaccines up to date. A dog without all the proper shots will not be allowed to board the plane.

Do a Crate Check
Call your airline and ask if there is anything you need to supply for the crate. This will save you a lot of grief and layovers once you get to the airport.

Simply Love Him
Many dogs are a bit skittish when it comes to traveling. Just like people, new things can be frightening – like the unfamiliar sounds of a plane. Supply your pup with plenty of love and comfort. In the end, it’s the most important part of caring for your pet either abroad or at home.
